Jim Bear came from very humble beginnings to achieve success in the business world and advance the welfare of his people.

As president of the Aboriginal Council of Winnipeg, Jim began a lifelong policy of building bridges between mainstream and Aboriginal people. His humble, non-confrontational manner brings both sides of a conflict together.

Jim co-founded the Southeast Tribal Council which, by pooling financial and technical resources, initiated many successful business ventures that employ Aboriginal people. Jim sits on numerous Boards and Foundations continually looking for avenues to improve his people’s socio-economic conditions.

Like his ancestor, Chief Peguis, Jim steadfastly believes in a Canada where First Nations and mainstream society live in harmony — where all cultures are respected.
