| Alex was born in 1927 near Reindeer Lake to Henry Thomas and Liza Cook. At the time Henry was working for the Hudson Bay Company with 10 others sailing and rowing freight from Prince Albert to Brochet.
Alex trapped with his father for many years. In 1950 he married Veronique, 18, from Brochet. The couple raised 13 children. Alex is proud he was able to raise his entire family from his income as a trapper.
When asked if he ever experienced any difficulty on the land, Alex commented, ‘I was careful to never put myself in danger. I took no chances and did not jeopardize my ability to earn a living for my family.’ Alex had a good relationship with the H.B.C. because his trapping ability enabled him to bring back much fur to the post.
In 2000, the family relocated to Lynn Lake so Veronique could receive medical aid. Alex obviously enjoyed his life and still gets excited when he talks about his exploits on the land.
